Why does my roof look so bad?
The ugly black streaks/stains on your roof are various organic growths, primarily algae, lichen, moss and mold. The recent explosion of these unattractive and harmful growths can be attributed to changes in roof shingle manufacturing within the past 25 years. Shingle manufacturers have moved towards cheaper, lighter fiberglass shingles. These shingles, when combined with a humid climate, provide optimal conditions for organic growths.
Do these growths damage my roof?
While each type of growth will effect your roof differently, algae, lichen, moss and mold all retain moisture, which will cause premature degrading and granule loss.
Will roof cleaning reduce my energy bill?
Yes. Your roof was built to reflect the sun's rays, thereby keeping your roof relatively cool. The thick, dark growths found on Houston area roofs act as sponge, absorbing heat instead of reflecting it. Depending on the extent of the growth, roof cleaning can reduce your energy bill by up to 10%.
How long will my roof stay clean?
Our warranty is no regrowth for 1 year, but depending on how much sunlight and moisture your home is exposed to, it might not experience any regrowth for several years. We also recommend having our preventative application applied every 1-2 years, or at first signs of growth, to prevent the stains from ever coming back. We offer this service at a fraction of the cost of our initial clean.
Does cleaning damage my roof?
No. Our products are ASMA (Asphalt Shingle Manufacturers Association) approved and recommended, and we use very low pressure to apply our solution.
